Bluewater 5200
By Elizabeth Ginns Britten Fall
2004
For all the wonderful, albeit hazy memories I have of quality cruising time with my family as a child, there is one thing I remember clear as day: There was never enough breathing room for the four of us on those days when we got under one another’s skin and just wanted to be alone.
If the Bluewater 5200 had been available back then,
perhaps that would have solved this problem. Bluewater
Yachts (800-733-7127, www.bluewateryacht.com)
builds her full of features for anyone considering living aboard, or contemplating
an extended cruise.
Her two staterooms (each with queen-size island berth) are placed as far apart as possible—one all the way aft, the other far forward. On her upper deck, the 5200 has a barbecue, wet bar, and dinette to accommodate a cruising couple or family and guests. One person who recently cruised her told me: “She’s truly a floating home—and she’s just 52 feet long.”
A shallow 23-inch draft allows for exploration of waters unavailable to most cruising boats of a similar size, which translates to privacy or the ability to get right up close to the shoreline with fellow beachgoers. Yes, that’s right—she’s practically as beachable as a dinghy!
The Bluewater 5200 also has a low center of gravity, reverse chines, and a sharp entry—all of which help make her ready for whatever seas may come her way. With standard twin 520-hp MerCruiser gasoline inboards, she reportedly cruises at 22 mph and tops out at 28 mph. Base price is $523,319.
