Charter Options

Though San Diego isn’t the center of the chartering universe—remember, there aren’t a whole lot of destinations off the California coast—there are options if you want to fly into the city and cast off for a cruise.

If your taste is to bareboat with a local captain leading the way, try California Cruisin’ (800-449-2248, www.californiacruisin.com). It has a handful of powerboats available from 42 to 75 feet. California Cruisin’ also does “boat and breakfast” deals, where you can use the boat as your hotel room at the dock. If you’re just looking for a day boat to gunkhole around in, Seaforth Boat Rentals (619-437-1514, www.seaforthboatrental.com) has a fleet of bowriders up to 24 feet. They can be rented by the hour or overnight.

For crewed boats, Interpac Yachts, Inc. (619-222-0327, www.interpacyachts.com) is the place to call for yachts starting at 50 feet. “We do a lot of harbor cruises, some trips to Catalina, and of course sportfishing charters to Mexico,” owner Beverly Parsons says.
