Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

If you're heading from Dana Point Harbor to Catalina Island, you'll want to grab lunch. The best place to do that is at Proud Mary's (949-493-5853, www.danapointharbor.com/ proudmarys/ProudMarys.html), located right in the marina next to the public docks. The turkey-avocado-and-sprout sandwich on squaw bread might be very Californian, but it's also very, very good. And the burgers are just killer. Order ahead, dock your boat, send a runner for the food, and you'll be on your way. This routine is standard operating procedure for Leishman when clients and friends are onboard.

Leishman also confirms what Catalina Island locals say: For first-rate seafood in Avalon, Armstrong's Fish Market and Seafood Restaurant (310-510-0113, www.armstrongseafood.com) is the place. "Every time we go there, my wife and I ask ourselves, 'Is this restaurant really this good?' And the answer is yes."
