1966 Trumpy 55
By Brad Dunn Fall
2004
Trumpy is a name revered throughout the boating world. With less than 100 still afloat, these unforgettable powerboats are an endangered species.
The 1966 55-footer being offered by Sparkman & Stephens (954-524-4616) showcases all the timeless Trumpy characteristics. The three-stateroom layout puts crew and guests in spacious rooms forward and to starboard. The aft master taps the full 14-foot, 1-inch beam. Walk up to the sprawling aft deck, and behold a space where royalty could be entertained. The forward helm station with bench seat embodies the essence of Trumpy style.
Beneath the ornate exterior lies extraordinary craftsmanship: double-planked mahogany on oak frames, fastened with bronze. With a top end of 12 knots and a cruise speed of 10 – and only 500 gallons of fuel capacity – this boat is for relaxed day cruisers.
The “serious seller” is asking $295,000 and may consider a swap for a picnic boat as part of the deal. Listing agent Curt Brayer said the boat requires no major repairs, but suggested the starboard engine may need upgrades. Also, the helm electronics package is minimal.
According to Brayer: “This Trumpy has been maintained, and in some areas painstakingly restored, to its original standard.” —Brad Dunn
