Hatteras 58
By Brad Dunn Fall
2004
Long before sleek was chic and curves were cool, hard angles were all the rage. This Hatteras really makes the point: With more triangles than a billiards hall, this 58-foot triple cabin motoryacht opened a new chapter in the builder’s design book, and welcomed in the 1970s with style.
Three decades later, the classic still manages to turn heads. Powered by twin GM 12V71 diesels, the angular hull cuts a comfortable 18-mph cruise, according to the owner. With an 825-gallon fuel capacity and manufacturer-estimated burn of about 40 gph at cruise, you can expect a range of about 370 miles.
In fact, cruising is sweet inside this spacious, three-stateroom affair. Whether she’s your fishing headquarters, party boat, or second home, the Hatteras offers tons of usable space—and a new interior.
With claims of a “spotless engine room” and “perfect bottom,” this owner is requesting $295,000—a comparable price to other boats in the class. Of course, any 33-year-old boat will have taken an offshore pounding over the years. Don’t forget to carefully inspect the hull for any ominous signs of age before calling Virginia Yacht Brokers (757-482-6630).
