Albin North Sea Cutter
By Brad Dunn Spring 2005
When two New England legends team up, boating brilliance
is born.
Behold Roslyn, a
48-foot work of nautical art born of a 1981 collaboration between Albin
Marine of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and C. Raymond Hunt & Associates
of Boston. The Albin North Sea Cutter contains some of Hunts classic
touches, including his signature deep-V hull that slices through treacherous
waters like a paring knife.
Roslyn, which is offered by HMY
Yacht Sales (904-384-8300, www.hmyyachtsales.com),
not only has stood the test of time, but also has the distinction of being
hull No. 1 of about 20 such custom boats that were built.
Shes perfect for family cruising,
says Paul Flannery, who bought her in 1998. Of course, shes
not for tournament-level fishing, but shes great for smooth cruising
and long days on the water.
Flannery says the boat was in less-than-perfect
condition when he bought her, but he spent two years restoring her
original beauty, including repainting the hull its original jade-mist
green.
He repowered the North Sea Cutter with 307-hp Volvo
diesels, which reportedly allow a cruising speed of 18 knots while burning
only 20 gph.
At a reduced asking price of $249,000, this
Albin may be a bargain on a boating classic.
